While digital technology has always held much promise, not in the least when it comes to publishing, it hasn’t always been able to deliver - Here and Now? Explorations in Urgent Publishing
The common narrative about post-truth is this: public opinion is increasingly formed by emotion rather than objective facts and populists eagerly and successfully exploit social media’s speedi- ness and emotional appeal, using the ineffective- ness of well-balanced, slower-paced responses to their advantage. This is a book that is not a book.
It is just an object trying to escape a world full of objects, maybe becoming alive in a world full of life. It is a learning book. Not an educational one, not for you to learn anything from it, but to learn itself. Nobody knows why it wants to learn, but why should we?
It didn’t ask us to be published either. We put my name on it and you can squeeze it.

Graphic design studio Maximage’s motto is “emotions and technology”
Before I started this research my question was does print has more value than digital. But during my research I discovered that print now also plays an important role in this digital age and that both aspects have advantages for people. That's why I changed the title of my publications to the art of print & digital . Here you see that these 2 worlds have to work together to function.

In this book i am talking about various innovative printing techniques. These accompanying pages are therefore made in the same printing technique or with details of this printing technique. I chose this so that when the user reads about this topic, they immediately have an example of what it looks like. With this i try to emphasize its urgency. Throughout the book are also citations from famous people who share their concerns about the subject of print and the value they attach to it. Everything in the black box is the advantages of print and all citations with a white background have QR codes that refer to the advantages of digital. With this i want to give the reader a reminder that you don’t have to choose, but that both work well for matching purposes.

That is why i have chosen to combine these goals in this book. For the digital aspect, i opted for the accompanying technology Augmented reality. This is visible throughout the book with small QR codes that refer to the benefits of digital with matching animations. In this way you have digital and print in one and these two beautiful aspects need each other to work for a change instead of being seen as a separate part.

hardcase cover
I made a case to cover my book. Because of my white printed ink cover i wanted to have something that would protect it.Thats why i used a case sleeve that is clean printed whith black matt ink to protect it

Binding technique
For my binding technique i used swiss binding. I also wanted the binding print to represent as good as possible and how beautiful this can be.

Techniques used
Here you will find all the techniques I have used. This ranges from puffy ink for my cover to foiling stamping in the book itself. Each technique matches what is written in the book.

puffy ink
You perform this technique with the silkscreen. You use a type of ink that rises after you dry it foint and thus becomes puffy. In the example you see here for my cover I reversed the technique and printed not my letters but the background with this white ink.

In my book I also use riso printing. You can print heavier colors and layers on top of each other

Risograph
Silk screen
I also used the silkscreen technique with normal ink, which I especially added to large surfaces and shapes for optimal readability.
foiling stamping
Is a technique that presses a kind of shiny coat over your letters. Your black printed letters work like glue and if you place them under a heat press with foil, it will penetrate.
